vs. Williston State 9/7

3   WSC   21   26   25   25
1   DCB   25   24   23   16

Our home crowd really got their money worth during this game!  Too bad the outcome wasn't a little different for us.  The girls fought hard but came up just short.  In practice, we work on the fact that winning the first game may be the easiest.  Then to continue that streak, we have to dig even deeper.  I felt we did this sets 2 & 3 but made errors on our side of the net that can be controlled.  Losing by a 2 point deficit not one, but two sets exhausts a team and that showed when it came time to push in the fourth.  Mental toughness is key in games like this so that will be our focus in practice this coming week, which is a busy one!
Homecoming festivities kick off on Monday when we host the Jimmies of Jamestown JV.  Coronation and a short pep rally will follow.  We then travel to Devils Lake for a conference game against the Royals on Wednesday.  Friday and Saturday we are back in the Woodshed with the Trinity Bible Lions visiting us Friday for a 6:00 game and Briercrest College on Saturday at 6:00 as well.

Welcome back to Alumni this week.  Go Jacks!

@ Bismarck State 8/31

3    BSC    25    16   25   27
1    DCB    21   25   13   25

This road trip proved to be a great test for us.  The 4 sets with BSC was much like a roller coaster ride and we will need to work on how to level that out.  We fell behind in the first set but went on a nice rally to show that we weren't going to give up.  The second set we came out strong from point 1 and I am very proud of the way we kept attacking the ball to hold the lead.  Set 3, however, after the intermission was definitely the down slope of our coaster ride.  We got stuck in a couple rotations and couldn't rally up more than 1 or 2 points at a time.  How to pull ourselves out of slumps is a constant battle with any team so the sooner we can figure that out, the better we will be.  This match could have easily gone all 5 sets as the 4th was a tight one.  We lost momentum on key points toward the end and couldn't quite pull if off.   Overall, I am proud of our effort and look forward to playing BSC again in a few weeks.
Stephanie Brenden had a nice game with 10 kills and 3 blocks.  Taylor Hewson led our defense with 17 digs and added 7 kills and 2 ace serves as well.  Victoria Obergfell has adjusted well as a freshman to the faster pace and contributed 21 assists along with 9 kills and 2 ace serves.
We will be working hard these next few days before we face off with Williston State here in the Woodshed!

2016 Season Opener @ St. Cloud Technical College Invitational

The 2016 season is underway! We traveled to St. Cloud for the SCTCC Invitational this past weekend and I was very pleased with the outcome.  We came out of it 2-2 after defeating Dakota County CC and Mesabi Range CC but losing to St. Cloud Tech and Northern Iowa Area Community College.  I made my list of what kinks need to be worked out yet and also what we need to continue doing well.
I am really looking to our 5 returners to show leadership each match and help transition the freshmen into the new level of play.
Sophomore right side hitter, Hanna Hovland, has been out thus far due to a silly injury she sustained before moving back to campus so I am excited to have her back this week and be at full strength against Bismarck State on Wednesday.
Our home opener is Wednesday, September 7th against Williston State at 7:00 here in the Woodshed.
We have a nice, well-rounded team this year so come on out to help make this season a successful one!
